If you're in the Los Angeles area this weekend, head over to the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall for a collaboration that is sure to sound as good as it looks on paper. The LA Philharmonic will be pairing up with the Brooklyn-based atmospheric indie rockers Grizzly Bear for a co-headlining performance that will tickle every aspects of your musical senses. The first half of the show features the orchestra playing selections hand-picked by Grizzly Bear and the LA Phil, reflecting classical music's influence on the band's sound. After the orchestra plays, Grizzly Bear will bust out a set of their own, giving those Phil fans some anti-aging medicine in the shape of reverb soaked melodies and amplified sounds.
If you need more info on this genre bending night of music, you can find it here.
Chuck and Mikey are The Cool Kids. They are cool enough to wear a little bit of gold and carry a pager, and cool enough to give away a free download of "Action Figures", the first track from their next EP, The Bake Sale. Furthermore, we are cool enough to hook it up with this fresh little diddy. Hear it now.

Thanks to MissingToof for the headsup on this number.... Badical favs Hot Chip did a remix of Grammy grabber Amy Winehouse and her track "Rehab". I can honestly say that I never would have imagined these two collaborating, but then again, Hot Chip is always full of suprises. Hot Chip's new album, Made In the Dark, was just released through Astralwerks, and you can pick it up the digital download through iTunes or the CD (which includes some bonus DVD footage) through Amazon.

The keytar slaying, drum banging duo from NYC known as Kap10Kurt have a bunch of badical shows lined up, starting with an opening slot for Yelle tonight in NYC, then pressing forward to Europe for the Paysage Electronique Festival and some dates with Cool Kids Can't Die, and finishing up with a few shows in Japan (details on that emerging soon). If you haven't heard these guys, we've got a couple tracks from their Dangerseekers 12" that came out last November, as well as a live video of these guys shredding it up.
The new Tapes N' Tapes track from the band's upcoming LP, Walk It Off, is spreading like the clap and it's infected our site with some fresh indie rock goodness. The catchy new jimmy-jam, "Hang Them All", is bursting at the seams with those all-to-familiar sounds that made Tapes N' Tapes fans fall in love with The Loon. The track is upbeat, raw, and well-produced, but it's not too much of a departure from the oldies, and it's just fresh enough to keep the die-hards happy. Either way, "Hang Them All" is an excellent indication of what's to come from the band's highly anticipated April 8th release from XL Recordings. Give it a listen and drop a comment about it below.
Ohhh what a find. Take some time on this lovely Sunday afternoon and check out this electro pop outfit from Paris called Genjini. You will find Hot Chip, Architecture in Helsinki, Santogold, and a few other Badical favs among their top friends, so you know the sound is gonna be fresh. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any Genjini mp3's floating around, but you can stream a couple of their tracks via their Myspace page, and watch them perform "Running All in Vain" live from the Social Club below.
The duo from the United Kingdom known only as Fuck Buttons are about to unleash their electro-psychedelic mayhem with a new record, a SXSW showcase, and a massive US tour with Caribou. The new album from ATP Recordings is called Street Horrrsing, and it will be flying off the indie record store shelves starting March 18th. These guys have created some truly interesting ideas and quite a unique sound... one worth checking out. The band is currently pushing their Limited Edition 7" single, "Bright Tomorrow". You can stream it here and watch the video below.
The release of Ghostland Observatory's third full-length record, Robotique Majestique, is just a few weeks away (Feb. 26th), and excitement is definitely in the air. What's that I hear? Ahhhh yes.... It's the sound of some fresh new Madlib beats bumping through the stereo in the office. The LA-based producer has teamed up with Stones Throw Records labelmate Percee P to put out a set of Remixes for the hip-hop artist's most recent release, Perseverance. Coincidentally enough, Madlib produced the original Percee P album as well, but he has a few new tricks up his sleeve on his second take at it. The new album is called Perseverance: The Madlib Remixes, and you can pick up your very own copy here. If you need some instant gratification, it's your lucky day, because we got a free download of the Madlib Remix featuring Aesop Rock.
The English electro-pop outfit Hot Chip are busy promoting the release of their brand spankin' new third full length album, Made In the Dark, which is DEFINITELY worth picking up (stream and buy here). The production is flawless, the energy seemlessly fades from heavy to light and back, and the vocal melodies are sure to put a little pep in your step. Check out this colorful video of Hot Chip performing their second single, "Ready for the Floor", Live on Jimmy Kimmel (2/5/2008). Is it just me, or is Alexis Taylor bringing back the Hammer pants?

In case you were wondering where on earth we've been the past two weeks, here is what you missed out on. A couple weeks ago, the news management script that was the "guts" of BadicalBeats.com was hacked by some trouble makers, causing our server to completely crash and burn. We explored our options and diligently tried to get the original site back up, but the damage had been done, and we ended up having to rebuild it from scratching using Blogger. In the process, I lost about 500 posts worth of stories, mp3s, videos, and good music... but here we are, striking back.
All music and videos on Badical Beats are posted solely to promote the artists. If you or your label or your attorney have a problem with a post and believe the music should be removed, please send over a friendly email to: badicalbeats [at] gmail [dot] com and we will kindly do so.
